Job Description

Position Objective:

To oversee the daily operations of the Audio/Visual (A/V) Department.


Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Oversee daily operations of the A/V Department, including but not limited to:

o Manage staff scheduling and department’s after-hours schedule

o Maintain department calendar

o Ensure that video and photo equipment is properly conserved

o Monitor uses of department server and equipment

o Oversee weekly department meetings

o Approve expense reports and check requests

• Manage A/V Department staff members, including:

o Recruitment, training, and mentoring of staff members

o Manage timecards

o Evaluate time-off requests

o Oversee bi-annual and annual staff evaluations

o Set performance goals and strategize accordingly

o Address employee issues, concerns, conflicts

o Maintain staff records

• Evaluate and make updates to the department's standard operating procedures in order to ensure efficiency and technical accuracy

• Work closely with PETA’s Online Video Labs Department to ensure that shared department SOPs are being adhered to and that shared server is being correctly maintained

• Collaborate with PETA’s Information Technology Department to ensure that internal server and paid platforms are being used effectively

• Work with A/V Project Manager, Managing Editor, and Archives Manager to ensure optimal department operation functioning

• Maintain department records of equipment, software, and warranties

• Serve as point of contact for department staff requests for new equipment, software, hardware, and organizational tools

• Liaise and build relationships with third party vendors

• Keep on top of audio/visual equipment, software, and hardware trends

• Monitor external loans of video and photo equipment

• Oversee monthly staff meeting production

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor



• Minimum of four years of management experience, including hiring and staff development

• Minimum of five years of online video and production experience

• Thorough knowledge of and commitment to animal rights issues and PETA campaigns

• Proven ability to use discretion when working with confidential material

• Strong working knowledge of A/V equipment and software, including Adobe Creative Suite

• Experience developing and administering departmental procedures

• Proven strong leadership skills, strategic-thinking skills, and long-term vision

• Proven negotiating skills

• Proven exceptional analytical, organizational, and research skills

• Proven ability to deal professionally with staff members and the public

• Proven excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

• Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines in a professional manner

• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
