Our Mentor Program provides individualized support to people moving towards vegan living. The Mentor Program Assistant will perform tasks required to develop and strengthen this exciting new program. Duties and Responsibilities: Complete research and outreach projects. Support tasks related to event planning. Support tasks related to community program planning and delivery. Assist with administrative tasks. Spend your summer helping children connect with animals, each other, and their inner sense of compassion! The Camp Kindness Counselor Intern will assist with Camp Kindness.  This is a weekday program for children ages 8-14 years that focuses on fostering compassion for all living beings. Camp runs Monday through Friday, July 9 to August 3 with a special camp August 6-10. Interns in this role are crucial for providing a safe and fun environment for the children we serve. This internship provides an opportunity to work at a unique summer camp that encourages children to learn about the plight of farmed animals and how those animals are similar to humans. Camp Kindness also teaches children to explore more compassionate choices. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist Educators in leading activities and supervising campers Facilitate connections between campers and animal residents Ensure that children have a positive, fun, and educational experience Help with set up of the camp room and cleaning up at the end of the day Organizing and preparing camp materials Other tasks and duties as needed Qualifications: Have experience working with children between the ages 8-14 years either in a formal or informal setting (e.g. summer camp, classrooms, parks, tutoring, etc.) An understanding of what is age-appropriate information for children of various ages, as well as age-appropriate ways to communicate that information Be comfortable or willing to learn how to work with a variety of farmed animals (e.g. cows, horses, pigs, etc.) Willingness to learn specific stories and facts about our animal residents Familiar with the mission of Catskill Animal Sanctuary – vegetarians and vegans are encouraged to apply! Be able to follow detailed instructions and meet schedules Be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with other interns, volunteers and staff Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions Training in First Aid and/or CPR is a plus Position Availability: Camp Kindness internships are available from the beginning of July through mid-August. Candidates must be able to commit to all weeks of camp (July 9 to August 10), plus mandatory training during the first week of July. Interns are expected to work Monday through Friday for about 7.5 hours per day. The Development Department at the Catskill Animal Sanctuary is responsible for the cultivation and stewardship of individuals, corporations and organizations/trusts. Interns in this department are crucial to the organizational advancement of the Sanctuary and our mission. Interns provide general administrative support, assist with grant proposals, complete data entry, prepare communications in support of our donor stewardship and help organize special events. This internship provides a unique opportunity to learn the day-to-day business of fundraising and prepares an intern for a career in not-for-profit and advocacy organizations. Duties and Responsibilities: Handle correspondence with funders and engaging with other staff members Assist with social media and communication efforts when applicable Assist with data analysis, reporting and tracking Support fundraising events in developing materials Participating in a specific fundraising project Other tasks and duties as needed Qualifications: Have an understanding of and be able to effectively communicate the philosophy and mission of Catskill Animal Sanctuary Office experience, skills in data entry, written and verbal communications, and internet research Prior experience in fundraising a plus, but not required Be able to follow detailed instructions and meet deadlines Work independently, as well as collaboratively with other interns, volunteers and staff Commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week for at least 2 months Ability to work non-standard office hours that encompass weekends and evenings in preparation of special events or deadlines Position Availability: Development and Fundraising internships are available year-round and positions are filled on an ongoing basis as applications are received. The Outreach Department is responsible for raising awareness of the sanctuary’s work, innovative educational programs, and increasing stakeholder engagement. In addition, the Outreach Department oversees special fundraising and educational events, including Cocktails & Cow Tales (annual fundraiser in New York City), Shindig (onsite summer festival), and Gobble & Groove (onsite Thanksgiving season celebration). Interns provide support in a variety of ways. Duties and Responsibilities: Representing Catskill at vegan/vegetarian food festivals, animal rights and environmental conferences, and other networking events Helping to plan and execute on and off-site special events Assisting with research projects and data entry Dropping off Catskill literature at community centers, libraries, cafes, yoga studios, vet clinics, etc. Performing other tasks and duties as needed Qualifications: Have an understanding of and be able to effectively communicate the philosophy and mission of Catskill Animal Sanctuary Be knowledgeable about the sentience and suffering of farmed animals, and the benefits of vegan living Be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with other interns, volunteers and staff Have excellent research skills and be detail-oriented Be outgoing, friendly and personable, and enjoy interacting with diverse groups of people Be available a minimum of 10 hours a week (may include some weekends and evenings) for a minimum of 8 weeks Position Availability: Outreach and Special Events internships are available year-round and positions are filled on an ongoing basis as applications are received. The Animal Care department at the Catskill Animal Sanctuary is responsible for the overall health and well-being of our animal residents. Interns in this department are crucial to the daily functioning of the sanctuary. Whether cleaning stalls, barns and shelters, or grooming, feeding and watering the animals, each day interns work with our animal care team to provide life-enriching care for the hundreds of animals we shelter. This internship provides a unique opportunity to learn the day-to-day operations of sanctuary life and the proper care of farmed animals.
