Media Writer
PETA Foundation
Position Objective: To write news releases, pitches, and other press materials that promote various PETA and PETA affiliate campaigns and events   Primary Responsibilities and Duties: • Write news releases, pitches, and other press materials requested by the Communications Department, other departments, and PETA's international affiliates • Write and edit official letters to media • Write interview facts for staff spokespeople and statements for the media for all campaigns and projects • Review all news release request forms with a critical eye and determine what information is appropriate for press materials • Keep up to date on PETA's and its affiliates' campaigns and incorporate changing elements into press materials • Apply PETA's in-house style guide to all written press materials • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor   Qualifications: • Degree in a related field or equivalent experience • Minimum of three years of professional writing experience; newspaper or magazine writing experience preferable • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of the media industry • Interest in animal rights issues and PETA campaigns • Ability to handle stressful situations with diplomacy • Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills • Proven ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through • Proven ability to make sound judgments and work independently • Proven excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues • Commitment to the objectives of the organization

Position Objective: Maximize the reach of PETA’s celebrity campaign launches – and manage other celebrity marketing efforts focused on fresh, exciting online content and press-worthy advertising.   Position Responsibilities and Duties: Draft dynamic celebrity campaign features and blogs, as well as other short creative items, such as video scripts, statements for press and more Liaise between Communications, Production and Marketing Departments to ensure goals are being taken into consideration for all celebrity campaigns and weigh in on content ideas for celebrities Research celebrities and ad/design firms for potential partnerships and identify outreach and promotion opportunities, discuss new and upcoming campaigns, and plan content Report on and analyze celebrity campaign success and make recommendations to improve campaign reach and impact Stay up-to-date with all celebrity-related news, events, important dates (birthdays, new shows and movies, anniversaries) and award shows (e.g. Grammys, Oscars, etc.) and strategize fresh, interesting content promotion opportunities around breaking news and milestones Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor   Qualifications and Requirements: College degree in a related field or equivalent experience Minimum of two years of experience in online marketing with a focus on creative writing Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in celebrity culture, including social media influencers (should be able to name your favorite YouTube creators) Proven interest in and strong working knowledge of social media (should have tons of experience scrolling and posting on Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) Experience creating content that has a point of view and demonstrates knowledge of current trends Demonstrated excellent writing skills and the ability to nail a specific voice Demonstrated ability to think and strategize creatively Extensive knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Self-starter with a proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues Naturally, you'd need to be committed to the objectives of the organization, and living a vegan lifestyle would be a part of this.
